Block of the Month – October 2015

Every month we offer a discount on one of our popular designs and this time it is the asymmetric trilby brim BB95.

This brim block goes fantastically well with our asymmetric trilby crown CB158. These blocks are great fun to make as we can allow ourselves more create freedom to come up with something different every time. Each one is a unique block that will never be repeated!

With a set of brim legs to support the brim, the hat can be easily blocked in one by first blocking the crown and then pushing the block with felt still on through the hole in the brim. The felt is then shaped onto the brim and tied into the groove. Once off the block, the felt can be cut right on the groove line to leave a simple cut edge or you can cut it in the bottom of the groove and stitch the edge together.

If you would like to take advantage of this months offer and purchase a complete set, we will be happy to include the 15% discount on all three items.

You will receive 15% discount the BB95 below when you quote ‘Block of the Month’

CB158 Asymmetric Trilby

Drawing on our years of experience making literally hundreds of trilby blocks we know the principles that make these shapes work, and can therefore choose to distort the shape by eye to give some stunning and eye catching results. Unlike our standard shapes which are carefully made to templates so that each one is the same, these ones will be unique and personal to you – no one will have one the same! You could suggest how distorted you might like it perhaps….

The chequered block was made by special request – contact us if you would like to know more.

Ex VAT £199.17 GBP (price is for plain wood version not the chequered version)

Brim Legs

Brim legs are useful when blocking in one (one piece of felt for crown and brim together). The legs mean that the brim is supported off your work surface leaving enough room for the blocked crown to be pushed through to the desired height. This is a very effective and quick way to work leaving you less sewing to do later. Brims generally need to be 3/4″ bigger than the crown and legs need to be ordered at the same time as the brim so we can attach them securely. The picture shows a BB45 with legs.

  • A personal service

Dedicated to providing you with the best hat blocks you can buy - here at Guy Morse-Brown, our focus is firmly on working with you to make your own personal creations.

To make things with your hands is a fundamental part of human nature and whether it is the weaver, the felt maker, the block maker, or you the milliner, we are all part of a process that culminates in something that is more than just an object to admire - it is a statement, an expression that enriches the life of the wearer and creator alike.

We feel that the parts of the process shouldn't be completely separated so we want to work with you to enable us both to share in it all. For that reason you won't find online ordering here on our website but you will find a huge range that shows that almost anything is possible. It's too simple to just add products to a cart; we want to keep alive the personal communication between block maker and milliner that used to be so essential. Get in touch with us and share your ideas, let us know what you want to make and we're ready to serve.

They are almost too beautiful to use.
